Just 30 miles east of Los Angeles, La Verne is a thriving
community at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains at the northwest
edge of the Pomona Valley. La Verne was founded in 1887 when Los Angeles
businessman Issac Wilson Lord convinced the Santa Fe Railroad to extend service
through the area. In 1917, the name of the town was officially changed from
Lordsburg to La Verne, and residents celebrated.
Today, La Verne is home to around 33,000 people, with sizable
populations of families with children as well as senior citizens. La Verne’s
average resident is a college-educated individual between the ages of 20 and 50,
and the population of La Verne is described as “active and affluent.” The city
is well-connected to local roadways- the 10, 210, and 57 freeways serve La Verne, and
Route 30 ends in the city. The city boasts an active community center,
excellent schools, several golf courses and 11 parks! In addition, La Verne is
also home to the University of La Verne.
